You might have taken note of Chinese model Tin Gao's face by now - it's easy to remember. Whether starring in London designer Asai's AW18 lookbook as a blue anthropomorphic cat lensed by Hendrik Schneider, or covering King Kong magazine with panda-like make-up from Alex Box in a striking image taken by Britt Lloyd, to raising the roof with hair by Jawara in the current issue of Dazed print, or else starring in the eerie new music video for the Norwegian electronic artist Askjell, Tin Gao's distinct look breaks through the noise. Her wideset features and thin eyebrows have captured the imagination of the fashion industry since she was recently signed to Anti-Agency. Below, we gave her a quick fire round on her views when it comes to modelling and beauty.
How old are you and where are you from and live?
I'm 20. I moved to London from Wenzhou in China when I was 19 to study.
What’s your earliest beauty related memory?
The first time I saw my mother using the press blush stick when I was six.
What's in your make-up bag right now?
I don't use make-up or bring my make-up bag with me when I'm outside. I do have some random make-up stuff at home, except fake eyelashes and bronzer.
Describe your aesthetic in three words?
Random, weird, funny.
How did you get into modelling and what's been your career highlight?
I was found by an assistant from Anti-agency in my uni canteen. I have appreciated all the opportunities and experiences I've had. I’ve learned a lot and met lots of talented people, which is irreplaceable. Anything that is unusual and different.
What do you do in your spare time?
Act like a goat.
Tell us about the Askjell video you just appeared in.
It was an amazing experience with a lot of creative people involved. I love Askjell's soundscapes and hope the visuals do them justice. The directors Sophia and Robert were also really interesting to work with.
Tomorrow you wake up with another face of your choice. Whose and why?
A goat face. I would like to sleep on the grass like them.
It's the year 2080 and the two sexes have become obsolete in favour of one single type of human. Describe your perfect evening in.
I don't know if I will still be here or not, but having a good dinner with my old friends.
