Donald Trump’s mugshot just dropped!

On Thursday (August 24), Trump briefly visited Fulton county jail in Atlanta, Georgia, after turning himself in. Here, he had his photograph taken, was fingerprinted and had his personal details entered before he was released on $200,000 bail.

To recap: Trump, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani and 17 other associates were indicted in Georgia this month for allegedly conspiring to subvert the 2020 election results in the state. Trump faces 13 election fraud charges. It’s the fourth set of criminal charges to be levelled against Trump since March, when he became the first former leader of the USA in history to be indicted.

Trump made history with the mugshot, as it’s the first ever taken of a current or former US president (Trump did not have his booking photo taken during his previous arrests in New York City, Miami and Washington, DC). Some commentators have even suggested that the photo will become one of the most shared images of the 21st century.

The former US president had reportedly tried to weasel his way out of having his mugshot taken, but authorities at Fulton County Jail denied his request to be excused. Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat said: “It doesn’t matter your status, we’ll have a mugshot ready for you.”

Trump shared the mugshot on his Twitter account, marking his first tweet since January 2021 when he was banned from Twitter following the January 6 Capitol attack.
